LeRoy H. Harvey (1911-1998) collected grasses in the United States and Mexico, with a focus on New World Eragrostis. He received his bachelor's degree from the College of Education at Western Michigan in 1936. He went on to earn his master's at Michigan University. When he was pursuing his Ph.D., he was drafted into the army. Harvey published a book entitled, "Eragrostis in North and Middle America," in 1948.
